Rules & Regulations

Tournament will be Doubles only. There will be 3 separate flights based on level:
  • Advanced
  • Intermediate
  • Casual
Players should register for the appropriate level and are welcome to move up to a higher level, however cannot play at a lower level. If you partner is of a different level you must register in the higher level. For example:
  • Pair with one Advanced and one Intermediate player must register for Advanced flight
  • Pair with 2 Casual player can register in either Casual, Intermediate or Advanced flight
* Note: Tournament organizers reserve the right to determine level All players must register on the Al-Wahda website http://alwahdafestival.w3plus.net/2015-player-registrations/ by August 2nd, 2015 – registrations will not be confirmed until full payment has been received. There are 2 ways to Register:
  • Choose your own partner – both partners must register. Please indicate your partners name in the field provided in the registration process.
  • Individual – you can register as an individual and we will help you find a partner. Please register online and when prompted for partners name just indicate TBD (field is mandatory).

Format

Round Robin – each flight will have a round robin to determine ranking for the Elimination Round. Round Robin matches will be one game (21 points). Main Draw Elimination Round – The top 8 pairs will qualify for this round, and will be placed in bracket according to ranking (determined by Round Robin results). Matches will be one game of 21 until the Semi –Finals and Finals which will be best of 3 games (21 points). Consolation Round – Time permitting, each flight will also have a consolation round for pairs that either did not qualify for, or were eliminated in the first round of the main draw. This format maximizes playing time for all players, and with the inclusion of the consolation round more pairs will be alive longer in the tournament. Exact number of games will be determined by number of entries in each flight.

Miscellaneous

Tournament runs from Friday September 4th (evening) to Sunday September 6th. Players must be available to play all 3 days. Also, we will not be able to accommodate any requests from players that would like to participate in other Al-Wahda sports that are running concurrently due to scheduling conflicts. Tournament will be held off site at North Thornhill Community Center which is less than 5 minutes from JCC. Finals will be played at JCC on Sunday September 6th. Default rule will be in effect to ensure we remain on schedule. Yonex Mavis 300 (nylon) shuttles will be used. Tournament organizers reserve the right to adjust details and format based on number of entries received. All players must be of Shia-Ithna-Asheri Faith.
